Major Crackdown by Ranchi District Administration on Illegal Ultrasound Center; Equipment Seized and Center Sealed
Ranchi: Acting on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri, the district administration took major action on Wednesday against an illegally operating ultrasound center under the PC & PNDT Act. Based on a tip-off, a raid was conducted at 'City Ultrasound Center'—located on the first floor of Galaxy Complex at Kanta Toli Chowk—and the facility was immediately sealed.
The administration had received information that the center's operator, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, was running the facility without valid registration. During the raid, the team seized an ultrasound machine (GE Logiq C5), a computer set, a printer, an ANC register, bill books, and various other important documents and equipment.
Officials present during the operation included a magistrate nominated by the Deputy Commissioner, police personnel from Lower Bazar Police Station (including male and female officers), a medical officer, representatives from the Civil Surgeon's office, the District Program Manager, and other Health Department officials. The entire operation was supervised by the Additional District Magistrate.
The Civil Surgeon stated that operating any ultrasound center without authorization is completely illegal under the PC & PNDT Act. The district administration maintains a 'zero-tolerance' policy regarding such matters, and strict legal action will be taken against the offenders.
Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri asserted that any illegal activity contributing to foeticide or adversely affecting the sex ratio would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He has directed the Health Department to continue regular inspections and raids on ultrasound centers operating within the district.
