Jharkhand's cities to go high-tech; digital maps to enable monitoring of every road, building, and government asset

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren reviewed the GIS (Geographic Information System)-based urban management system being implemented by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO). He directed officials to ensure the project is completed with high quality within the stipulated timeframe.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was informed that 49 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state would be integrated using digital technology under this scheme. Currently, work is underway as a pilot project in the Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Giridih municipal corporations. Aerial LiDAR surveys have been completed in these three cities, and the work of preparing digital maps and processing data is proceeding rapidly.

Upon the project's completion, digital records will be created for every road, building, street light, electricity pole, water source, pond, and other government assets in the cities. This will facilitate better planning of development works, monitoring of government assets, and the provision of improved amenities to citizens by the municipal bodies.

The Chief Minister stated that the GIS-based system would make the functioning of municipal bodies more transparent and accountable. It will also assist in boosting government revenue, improving asset management, and effectively implementing urban development schemes.

He instructed officials to study the experiences gained from the pilot projects in Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Giridih and to formulate a plan to implement this system across all 49 urban bodies in the state in a phased manner.

Senior officials present at the review meeting included Urban Development and Housing Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department Sunil Kumar, Secretary of the Planning and Development Department Mukesh Kumar, and SUDA Director Suraj Kumar.
