World Milk Day Symbolizes Health, Nutrition, and Farmer Prosperity: Sanjay Sarraf

Ranchi, June 1: Sanjay Sarraf—Vice President of Hindi Sahitya Bharati and Spokesperson for the Shri Krishna Pranami Seva Dham Trust—stated on the occasion of World Milk Day that this day conveys a significant message regarding health, nutrition, farmer prosperity, and sustainable development. He noted that World Milk Day is celebrated annually on June 1st, having been initiated in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Sanjay Sarraf remarked that milk is considered a complete food because it contains numerous essential nutrients, including calcium, protein, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and potassium. Milk plays a pivotal role in the physical and mental development of children, enhancing the work capacity of youth, and maintaining strong bones in the elderly. Milk and dairy products hold a special place within a balanced diet.

He stated that the objective of World Milk Day is to raise public awareness regarding the health benefits of milk, honor the contributions of dairy farmers, and underscore the economic and social significance of the dairy industry. This day also provides an opportunity to foster better coordination among farmers, dairy entrepreneurs, scientists, and consumers.

Sanjay Sarraf pointed out that India is the world's largest milk-producing nation, and the dairy sector plays a crucial role in the country's rural economy. Millions of farmers and livestock rearers earn their livelihoods through milk production. The dairy business has made a particularly noteworthy contribution toward the economic empowerment of women. Milk cooperative societies and modern dairy technologies have given a new direction to rural development.

He mentioned that, on the occasion of World Milk Day, various organizations organize awareness campaigns, health camps, seminars, milk distribution programs, and training camps for farmers. This day also serves as a medium to promote the importance of nutritious diets, food security, rural development, and sustainable agriculture.

Sanjay Sarraf concluded by stating that, in the current times—amidst rising health challenges and the issue of malnutrition—the importance of nutritious food items such as milk has increased even further. World Milk Day conveys the message that, for the creation of a healthy society, it is essential to pay special attention to balanced nutrition, quality milk production, and the welfare of farmers.

He stated that World Milk Day is not merely a celebration, but a symbol of our collective resolve towards nutrition, health, farmer prosperity, and sustainable development.
