Nine Accused Acquitted in Six-Year-Old Firing and Attempted Murder Case Due to Lack of Evidence
Ranchi: The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner Sanjeev Jha at the Ranchi Civil Court has acquitted nine accused individuals who were facing trial in a six-year-old case involving attempted murder, firing, and violations of the Arms Act, citing a lack of evidence. The court observed that, in connection with Kanke Police Station Case No. xxx/2020, the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges against the accused.
Those acquitted include Mosahid Ansari, Tauhid Ansari, Nejam Ansari, Abid Ansari, Akbar Ansari, Ismail Ansari, Asgar Ansari, Yusuf Ansari, and Mojahid Ansari (alias Muju).
According to the prosecution, on August 26, 2020, during a land dispute, the accused—who were armed with weapons—attacked the complainant, Molib Ansari, and his family members, and opened fire. Charges were framed in the case under various sections of the law, including attempted murder, as well as under the Arms Act.
During the trial, three key witnesses—including the complainant—retracted their earlier statements. In court, they testified only that a scuffle and a dispute had taken place. Consequently, the prosecution declared all these witnesses hostile.
Meanwhile, the Investigating Officer informed the court that he himself had not conducted the investigation into the case. In its verdict, the court noted that not a single witness had corroborated the allegations regarding firing, a life-threatening assault, or the possession of illegal weapons.
The court concluded that, in the absence of sufficient and credible evidence, the prosecution had failed to prove the charges; consequently, all the accused were acquitted.
