Major Police Action in Ormanjhi: Two Militants Extorting Money in the Name of TPC Apprehended
Ranchi (Ormanjhi):
In a major crackdown against organized crime within the Ormanjhi police station limits, the police have arrested two militants who were demanding extortion money in the name of the TPC organization. Both accused individuals were involved in a case involving the demand for an extortion sum of ₹10 lakh from a local businessman.
The incident dates back to April 17, 2026, when a local businessman received threats and demands for money made in the name of the TPC. In connection with this matter, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Ormanjhi police station. To solve the case, a special team was constituted under the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi.
The team, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Silli, conducted a raid near Shalimar Nursery at the Irba roundabout based on technical surveillance inputs. During the operation, the police attempted to cordon off and apprehend two suspects; however, both individuals attempted to flee. The police gave chase and successfully arrested both of them.
The arrested accused include:
Samrit Ganjhu alias 'Malinga' alias 'Arun (Hazaribagh), Sonu Oraon alias 'Sunny' (Ranchi)
From the possession of the arrested Samrit Ganjhu, the police recovered a country-made pistol (*Katta*), a magazine, two mobile phones, a router, two SIM cards, a power bank, a data cable, and a black bag.
During interrogation, both accused confessed that they used to extort 'levies' (protection money) by intimidating businessmen across the districts of Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Chatra, in addition to Ormanjhi. The police are currently engaged in a search for other members of this criminal network.
The prime accused, Samrit Ganjhu, possesses a criminal history, and several cases—including charges of extortion and violations under the Arms Act—are registered against him across various police stations.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Silli), the In-charge of the Ormanjhi Police Station, and the team from the Technical Branch played a pivotal role in the success of this operation.
