Electricity employees protest nationwide against the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025
Electricity employees and engineers across the country held protests and demonstrations on Tuesday to protest the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025. The protests were called by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers. Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation, stated that the bill would promote privatization in the power distribution sector, adversely affecting farmers, domestic consumers, and employees. He stated that the elimination of cross-subsidies could lead to a significant increase in electricity rates for agricultural and poor consumers. The Federation warned that this would weaken public distribution companies and threaten the jobs of employees. The organization demanded the government withdraw the bill.
