Ranchi's Fight Against Filariasis: Special Campaign on February 10, Deputy Commissioner Appeals for Drug Consumption
Ranchi: To free the district from the serious disease of filariasis (elephantiasis), Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manjunath Bhajantri has announced a large-scale Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign. A drug distribution program will be held on February 10, 2026, at 619 booths across Rahe, Sonahatu, Tamar, and Kanke blocks.
This mega-campaign aims to cover approximately 491,014 people. The Deputy Commissioner clarified that those who are unable to reach the booths on February 10 will be given the medication at their homes by health workers by February 25. The DEC and Albendazole tablets will be provided completely free of charge and are safe to consume.
Women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been entrusted with a major responsibility for the success of the campaign, and groups that perform exceptionally well will be honored with certificates of appreciation by the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens to take the medication themselves and encourage others to do so as well, to protect future generations from this debilitating disease.
