Electricity workers stage nationwide strike to protest privatization, threaten sudden strike if bill is passed
New Delhi: Under the leadership of the All India Power Engineers Federation, electricity workers and engineers across the country boycotted work and protested. Federation Chairman Shailendra Dubey said that if there is an attempt to pass the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 in Parliament, the workers will immediately launch a lightning strike without prior notice.
Protesting against the privatization of the power sector, the workers demanded the withdrawal of the National Electricity Policy 2026, restoration of the old pension scheme, stopping outsourcing, and regular recruitment. This movement received support from the United Kisan Morcha and central trade unions.
