Illegal Arms Recovered in Ranchi; Land Mafia Member Arrested in Midnight Police Raid

Following the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, continuous verification and strict action are being carried out against land mafia networks and offenders under the Arms Act across the district. In this ongoing drive, Ranchi Police achieved a significant success on the night of December 22, 2025.

According to police sources, confidential information was received that an organized land mafia syndicate active in the Kanke and Gonda police station areas was attempting to create land disputes and carry out illegal occupation using firearms. Some members of this syndicate are already in judicial custody. Based on this input, a joint raiding team was formed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (Rural) and led by the Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ-I), comprising officers from Kanke, Gonda and Pithoria police stations.

The joint team conducted a raid around midnight at the residence of Etwa Toppo, son of Dahru Toppo, located near Chandni Chowk under the jurisdiction of . During the house search, police recovered one 9 mm pistol. Upon inspection, four live cartridges were found loaded in the magazine of the pistol.

The illegal firearm, live ammunition, and one Android mobile phone of recovered from the possession of the accused were seized following due legal procedure. Police stated that Etwa Toppo is involved in illegal land buying and selling activities and is an active member of a land mafia syndicate operating in the area.

The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to identify the source and supplier of the illegal firearm. Legal action is also being initiated against other individuals involved in the case.
