According to police, two youths—Farhan Ansari and Md. Sahab—booked an cab with the intention of robbing the driver. The accused allegedly kept the cab driver roaming across different parts of Ranchi city for nearly two hours. During this time, they forced the driver to arrange ₹34,000 in cash by making phone calls.
Under pressure, the victim contacted his friend to arrange the money. When the cash transaction was taking place, the cab driver and his friends resisted, following which the accused attacked them with the butt of a pistol.
After the incident, both accused attempted to flee from the spot. During the chase, Farhan Ansari was apprehended, while Md. Sahab managed to escape with the pistol. Upon search, police recovered one keypad mobile phone (Jio Bharat) and one live 8 mm cartridge from the possession of Farhan Ansari.
In this connection, a case has been registered at as Case No. 329/25 dated 22/12/25 under Section 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25(1-B)/35 of the Arms Act. The prime accused, Mohammad Farhan Ansari, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police records reveal that six criminal cases were already registered against him earlier.
Police officials stated that raids are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused, Md. Sahab, and further investigation into the case is underway.
