Police Seize Two Sand-Laden Hyva Trucks; Drivers Arrested for Illegal Mining

In a crackdown on illegal sand mining and transportation, the West Singhbhum district police have tightened surveillance across vulnerable areas. On Thursday, the Chaibasa Mufassil Police seized two Hyva trucks loaded with sand and arrested both drivers.
Illegal Sand Mining Rampant in Several Areas
According to sources, illegal excavation and transportation of sand have been rampant across various parts of the district. Sand mafias are reportedly selling sand at arbitrary prices to make huge profits, while questions are also being raised over the silence of the mining department.
Action Under DC & SP’s Instructions
Mufassil Police Station In-charge Vinod Kumar stated that a special drive has been launched against sand mafias under the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
During the operation, the police team intercepted two Hyva trucks near Purnia village. The vehicles were allegedly transporting sand illegally from the Tonto (Tantnagar) OP area towards Chaliyama in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Upon verification, illegal transportation was confirmed and the vehicles were seized.
Drivers Arrested, Mining Department Notified
The station in-charge said that both drivers have been arrested and are being interrogated. The District Mining Department has also been informed for further legal action.
The police clarified that stern action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal sand mining or trafficking in the district, and no offender will be spared.
