High Court Takes Tough Stand on Jail Dance Video, Orders Appointment of Regular Jail Superintendent Within Two Days
Ranchi, November 18: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday took suo motu cognizance of a viral video showing accused in liquor and GST scam cases dancing inside Birsa Munda Central Jail. The matter was heard before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan.
Taking the issue seriously, the High Court ordered that a regular Jail Superintendent be appointed within two days. The court further directed the jail administration to ensure that inmates do not get access to mobile phones, chargers, or any kind of intoxicants.
The court also instructed JHALSA and the police administration to conduct surprise inspections to monitor prison security and functioning. During the hearing, the Jail IG appeared before the court in person.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 5, 2026.
