Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari Sits in RIMS OPD, Treats Patients; Creates Stir Across State Health System

Ranchi, November 18: In an unprecedented move, Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari on Tuesday personally sat in the Medicine OPD of RIMS, the state’s largest government hospital, and treated patients himself. His sudden appearance as a practicing doctor created excitement among patients, attendants, and hospital staff, with many saying, “This is the kind of minister we want!”

According to the minister, strengthening the OPD system is the first step toward improving the state’s healthcare delivery. He announced that he will now sit in OPDs of different district hospitals every week, interact with patients directly, and boost the morale of on-duty doctors. A new OPD roster will soon be released to ensure strict monitoring of doctor attendance, punctuality, and service quality.

During his visit, Dr. Ansari also conducted an inspection of RIMS, issuing immediate directions for repairing malfunctioning diagnostic machines including CT Scan and MRI. He instructed hospital authorities to ensure uninterrupted drug supply and resolve patient grievances on the spot.

The Minister reiterated that any form of negligence, absenteeism, or illegal private practice by government doctors will be dealt with strictly, emphasizing that those choosing private practice must resign first.

Dr. Ansari highlighted reforms carried out over the past nine months, noting actions taken against expired medicines, irresponsible outsourcing agencies, and mismanagement. He stated that a major recruitment drive is underway to fill vacancies across departments such as Surgery, Medicine, Neuro, and Orthopedics.

Expressing displeasure over the poor condition of ambulances, he instructed the administration to expedite procurement of new vehicles.

The Health Minister added that only a strong public healthcare system can ensure quality treatment for the poor, promising firm action against those weakening the system and full support to honest healthcare workers.
