Family Planning a Major Step Toward Safe Motherhood: Minister Irfan Ansari

Ranchi | November 13, 2025

A state-level Male Sterilization Campaign and Felicitation Ceremony was organized on Thursday at the IPH Auditorium in Namkum. Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari inaugurated the event and said that family planning is not just about population control but a major step toward healthy families and safe motherhood. He emphasized that equal participation of men is essential for the success of this initiative and urged everyone to turn the campaign into a public movement.

“Men Must Share Responsibility in Family Planning”

The Minister noted that this campaign is a significant step under the state’s Family Welfare Program.

He said:

“Every child should be born with planning and preparedness, and every mother must enjoy the right to safe motherhood. Responsibility for family planning often falls solely on women, but it is time for men to share this responsibility equally. Sterilization is a safe, simple, and effective method, and it is our collective responsibility to dispel misconceptions around it.”

Dr. Ansari also announced that 8,500 technical and non-technical health workers will be recruited soon to strengthen health services across the state.

MoU Signed with Postal Department

On this occasion, an MoU was signed between the India Post (Jharkhand Circle) and the National Health Mission (NHM), Jharkhand for the transportation and distribution of family planning materials.

Under this MoU:

  • India Post will ensure timely supply of materials to health centers across the state through its India Post Parcel Network.
  • The initiative will help strengthen the mission of “Swasth Jharkhand, Sukhhi Jharkhand.”

Government to Further Strengthen Family Planning Services

Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh said that family planning is not merely a health program but the foundation of social and economic progress.

He appreciated the dedication of:

  • Surgeons
  • ANMs
  • GNMs
  • CHOs

He added that with collective efforts, Jharkhand will become a model state in male-participation–based family planning.

NHM Campaign Director Shashi Prakash Jha and State Nodal Officer Dr. Pushpa also addressed the gathering.

During the event, health workers and institutions from across the state were honored for their outstanding performance.
