New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has welcomed the Modi government's decision to allow Sikh pilgrims to visit Nankana Sahib in Pakistan on the sacred Guru Nanak Dev festival.
In a statement on Saturday, Chugh said that this decision reflects the Modi government's sensitivity, in which, despite security being a top priority, the faith of devotees has never been hurt. He said that the hallmark of Prime Minister Modi's leadership is that he has always maintained a balance between security and devotion. He said that after Operation Sindoor, the Home Ministry had banned the sending of the jatha due to the circumstances, but the call of faith associated with Guru Nanak Dev could not be ignored.
Chugh said that Nankana Sahib is not only a holy place but a living memory of Guru Nanak Dev, and the Modi government respected this emotional connection. This decision is not an isolated incident, but part of the Modi government's tradition of giving the Sikh-Punjabi community the highest respect. Whether it's opening the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, granting FCRA registration to Darbar Sahib, removing GST on langar, or celebrating Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th birth anniversary globally—each step has proven that the dignity and heritage of Sikhs is paramount for Prime Minister Modi.
Chugh said that the development of Punjab has always been a priority for the Modi government. Whether it's establishing AIIMS in Bathinda, promoting irrigation through the Shahpur Kandi Dam project, or connecting Amritsar to the world, the Modi government has considered Punjab not just a state but the heartbeat of India. He added that granting equal rights to Sikhs by revoking Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and establishing institutions to promote the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are proof that the Modi government has secured both the dignity and future of the Sikh community.
Chugh said that today, as the Sangat prepares to visit Nankana Sahib, they do so with the blessings of a government that truly respects their heritage. The Prime Minister has always made it clear that for him, the Sikh community is not a vote bank, but a living pillar of India's soul. The Modi government will stand with the Sikh community under all circumstances, protect their rights, preserve their heritage, and ensure that the Gurus' message of service, compassion, and equality continues to illuminate the path of this nation.
