Washington: Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has advised Trump that India should be considered a valuable and democratic partner. Spoiling relations with India would be a strategic disaster. If America wants to curb China's growing ambitions, it will have to give priority to relations with India.
According to agency, in her article published in Newsweek, Haley wrote that America should not ignore that its target is China and to face it, America should have a friend in the form of India. India is a democratic country and its rise is not a threat to the world but China's growing power is a challenge for the world because it runs under communist rule. Haley says that India is the only country to counter China's dominance in Asia. Haley wrote that India, like China, has large-scale production capacity, which can help the US meet its supply chain demand through India instead of China. Treating India like an enemy would be a strategic mistake. India's growing defense capability and its role in the Middle East can prove to be important in bringing stability to that region.
Haley's article, which underlines the importance of India from a global perspective, has come at a time when the trade dispute between the US and India is at its peak and President Donald Trump has imposed a 25 percent reciprocal duty and an additional 25 percent tariff on India, which will come into effect from August 27.
Haley said that India is the world's fastest growing large economy. India's rise will stop China's ambition to dominate the global system. As India becomes stronger, China's ambitions will weaken. The partnership between the US and India will fulfill the interests of both countries and India will be able to stand more strongly against China. But if the trade dispute between the US and India drags on for long, China can take advantage of this situation.
