Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned indefinitely

New Delhi: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned indefinitely on Friday. In this session, 14 bills were introduced and 12 bills were passed. The proceedings were affected due to the uproar of the opposition on the process of updating the voter list in Bihar and other issues.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla gave information about the work done in the House at the end of the session. He said that due to planned disruptions, only 37 hours of discussion was possible out of the scheduled 120 hours. The session started on 21 July and its end is being announced today. During this time Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the House.

Birla said that a special discussion was held in the House on 'Operation Sindoor' on 28-29 July, which concluded with the Prime Minister's reply. Apart from this, a special discussion was held on India's space program on 18 August. 419 starred questions were listed to be asked in this session. But due to continuous interruptions, only 55 questions could be answered orally.

He expressed regret that instead of the initially scheduled 120 hours of discussion, only 37 hours of proceedings could be held. He said that Parliament represents the expectations of the people. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain decent language and conduct in the House. Sloganeering, display of placards and planned deadlock are not in accordance with parliamentary traditions and dignity. Disagreement is a part of democracy, but it should be expressed with decency and dignity. He urged the political parties and all the members to introspect and make Parliament a platform for meaningful discussion in accordance with the expectations of the people.
