Attempt to end life by consuming phenyl... A female Home Guard's harrowing story raises questions about the system

Jamshedpur: A female Home Guard personnel, who performs her duties in uniform, is now forced to battle a personal financial crisis. The failure to receive timely honorarium and a forced absence from duty for several months drove her to take a drastic step that has put the entire system in the dock.

According to the female Home Guard, she was not assigned duty for nearly four months. Even when she was assigned duty, her honorarium was not paid on time. Amidst the burden of her ailing mother-in-law's medical treatment, her child's school fees, and other family responsibilities, her situation deteriorated to the point where she attempted suicide by consuming phenyl.

The biggest question is: why must personnel who discharge their duties day and night wait for their own hard-earned wages?

Meanwhile, Home Guard personnel state that allowances for municipal election duty are also outstanding, further exacerbating their hardships.

The Home Guard headquarters maintains that a letter regarding the outstanding payments has been sent to the Home Department.

Yet, the question remains—when exactly will the Home Department release the funds? When will Home Guard personnel receive what is rightfully theirs?

This incident is not merely the story of one female personnel; it is the voice of all those Home Guard personnel who are still waiting for their wages despite having rendered their services.
