Theft of Lakhs from Locked House Solved; 6 Criminals Arrested, Stolen Jewelry Recovered


Ranchi: The Ranchi Police have successfully solved a case involving the theft of valuables worth lakhs of rupees from a locked house situated on Vajpayee Path within the Doranda Police Station jurisdiction. In connection with this case, the police have arrested six criminals, while one juvenile in conflict with the law has been apprehended. Stolen gold and silver jewelry, mobile phones, and chat logs related to the buying and selling of the stolen ornaments have been recovered from the arrested accused.


According to a press release issued by the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, on May 8, 2026, unidentified criminals broke into a locked house and stole jewelry worth approximately ₹5 lakh, along with ₹50,000 in cash. In this regard, Case No. 121/26 was registered at the Doranda Police Station.


To solve the case and apprehend the criminals, a special team was constituted under the leadership of Pramod Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Hatia). Acting swiftly, the team conducted raids and arrested Md. Naqib (a goldsmith), Md. Saruf alias Shahrukh, Md. Simbaz, Md. Zaid, Md. Saif alias Sam, and Md. Kaif alias Chusu. Additionally, one juvenile in conflict with the law was apprehended.


Acting on leads provided by the arrested accused, the police recovered a significant quantity of stolen gold and silver jewelry. During the investigation, chat logs pertaining to the purchase and sale of the stolen jewelry were also discovered on the mobile phones of Md. Naqib and Md. Saif alias Sam.


The recovered items include various valuable ornaments such as gold rings, Mangalsutra lockets, Jhumkas (earrings), nose rings, studs, silver anklets, toe rings, waistbands, and armbands. According to the police, the total weight of the recovered gold is 21.6 grams, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹3.20 lakh. Meanwhile, gold jewelry worth approximately ₹1.5 lakh had already been melted down and sold. Additionally, silver jewelry weighing 219.48 grams was recovered, with an estimated value of approximately ₹63,000. Silver ornaments worth about ₹1.5 lakh had been melted down and sold.


The total value of the jewelry—both recovered and sold—involved in this entire case has been estimated at approximately ₹6.83 lakh.


The raiding team included Pramod Kumar Mishra (Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hatia) and Deepika Prasad (In-charge of Doranda Police Station), along with several other police officers and personnel from the Doranda Police Station.
