170 Athletes Showcase Their Prowess at the 2nd Ranchi District Pencak Silat Championship
Ranchi: The enthusiasm and talent of the athletes were a sight to behold at the 2nd Ranchi District Pencak Silat Championship (2026-27), held at the Morabadi Indoor Stadium. Organized under the aegis of the Ranchi District Pencak Silat Association, the competition saw approximately 170 children demonstrate their capabilities by participating in the Tanding, Tunggal, Ganda, Regu, and Solo events. The winning athletes were honored with certificates.
Serving as the Chief Guest, Aditya Malhotra—President of the Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce—stated that Pencak Silat is not merely a sport, but a powerful medium for self-defense, concentration, and discipline. He emphasized that in today's times, every individual should learn self-defense techniques, noting that this sport strengthens the youth both mentally and physically. He further remarked that while sports like cricket and football often garner more attention, disciplines such as Pencak Silat play a pivotal role in fostering self-confidence and alertness within society.
He gave an assurance that discussions would be held with the government regarding the promotion and propagation of Pencak Silat, with efforts directed toward taking the sport to every village. Additionally, he pledged to take initiatives toward securing a permanent facility for the Association. During the event, he extended his best wishes to the athletes from Jharkhand who participated in the National Pencak Silat Championship held in Anand, Gujarat, wishing them a bright future.
Kishore Mantri, President of the Ranchi District Pencak Silat Association, highlighted that athletes from Jharkhand are rapidly making a name for themselves in this sport. He noted that during the national championship held in Anand, Gujarat, the state's athletes delivered a stellar performance—winning one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals—thereby bringing glory to Jharkhand.
Concluding the program with a vote of thanks, Dolly Singh, the Association's Secretary, appealed for government assistance to cover the travel expenses of the athletes and to support the coaches. On this occasion, a large number of players, parents, and association members were present, including Anjan Thapa, Suraj Kumar, Lions Club Second Vice Governor Sujit Kumar, Raju Munda, Coach Kiran Singh, Abdul Qadir, Amit Pathak, and Vijay Kumar Limbu.
