Jharkhand’s Women Set to Become ‘Crorepati Didis’: Entrepreneurship Training Drive Launched in Collaboration with IIM Kolkata
Ranchi, April 30, 2026:
In the Jharkhand Secretariat, a team from IIM Kolkata presented a detailed proposal to Deepika Pandey Singh, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, regarding the empowerment of women entrepreneurs in the state. The presentation focused on enabling women to achieve success in entrepreneurship through innovation, business expansion, market access, and income enhancement.
The state's nodal agency, JSLPS (Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society), recently signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIM Kolkata. Under this agreement, a three-year action plan has been formulated to provide specialized training to women entrepreneurs across all 24 districts and 264 blocks of the state.
Under this scheme, approximately 50,000 women will be identified and trained using incubation methodologies. The training material will be available in a video format in both Hindi and English; additionally, women will be able to seek answers to their queries via audio messages. This model has previously benefited women in the states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam.
During the presentation, emphasis was placed on integrating the 124,000 women entrepreneurs currently associated with JSLPS into this initiative. Issuing directives to the officials, Minister Deepika Pandey Singh noted that while women in the state are already performing commendably in the field of entrepreneurship, they need to further scale up their businesses in alignment with modern technologies and market demands.
She stated, "Our objective is to transform 'Lakhpati Didis' (women earning in lakhs) into 'Crorepati Didis' (women earning in crores). To achieve this, innovation and modern training are indispensable."
Present on this occasion were several officials, including Manoj Kumar (Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj), Dr. Vivek Kumar Rai (CEO, IIM Kolkata), Gaurav Kapoor, Vishnu Parida (COO, JSLPS), and Nitish Sinha.
