Major Plan for Ranchi Traffic Improvement: Administration Mobilizes to Alleviate Congestion
Ranchi | April 23, 2026
The administration has initiated concrete measures to alleviate the mounting traffic pressure in the state capital, Ranchi. Acting under the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) conducted an inspection of the road infrastructure spanning from Radium Chowk, through Kishori Yadav Chowk, up to New Market Chowk.
Officials from the Traffic Police, the Municipal Corporation, NHAI, and the Electricity Department were present during the inspection. Taking into account the issues of traffic congestion and various traffic impediments, several significant decisions were taken.
What Will Change:
Road Widening to be Accelerated:
Road widening work will be expedited by relocating electricity poles currently situated along the roadside.
Left Turns to Remain Clear:
At New Market Chowk, left turns on both sides will be kept free of obstructions; measures to remove encroachments will be undertaken to ensure this.
Roundabout Near Zakir Hussain Park:
A new roundabout will be constructed to streamline traffic flow.
Double-Lane Road:
The road in the Naga Baba Khatal area will be converted into a double-lane road, providing relief to vehicles heading towards Ratu Road.
Improved Parking Management:
New designated parking stands will be established to curb illegal parking.
Strict Action Against Illegal Extortion:
Action will be taken against instances of illegal extortion targeting auto-rickshaw and 'Toto' (e-rickshaw) drivers.
Future Strategy
The administration has clarified that, given the increasing volume of vehicles in the city and the limited road infrastructure, changes to the existing infrastructure are imperative. These plans will be implemented expeditiously through the coordinated efforts of all relevant departments.
