Congress and Civil Society Unite to Strengthen MGNREGA; Minister Deepika Pandey Presents Data


Ranchi: Congress and social organizations have joined hands to protect the rights-based nature of MGNREGA in Jharkhand. In a meeting held in Ranchi, Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh shared the success of the 'Demand for Work Campaign,' stating that 1.74 lakh people participated between February 2-5, 2026, and 17,914 new job cards were created.


The Minister emphasized that 52% of the job cards in the state are in the names of women, and so far, 1017.65 lakh person-days of work have been generated.


The meeting was attended by Jharkhand's Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, Jharkhand Congress in-charge K. Raju, co-in-charge Bhupendra Maravi, National Chairman of Rachnatmak Congress and member of the MGNREGA Coordination Committee Sandeep Dikshit, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party Rajesh Kachhap, renowned economist Prof. Jean Dreze, James Herenj from Jharkhand NREGA Manch, Balram from MGNREGA Watch, representatives of social organizations, and office bearers of the Congress organization.


They expressed concern over the threat posed to MGNREGA by 'VB GRAM G'. It was decided that MGNREGA coordinators would be appointed in every district, and social audits would be strengthened to protect the rights of the workers.
