Ranchi News: The much-anticipated election of the (JSBC) has been formally announced. Following directions of the and approval from the High-Powered Election Committee, the JSBC has released the election schedule for electing 23 members for the 2026–31 term.
Polling will be held on 12 March 2026 under the preferential voting system. According to the election notification, the process is being conducted in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders dated 18 November 2025 and 8 December 2025.
The election process will commence on 20 January 2026 with the publication of the provisional voters’ list. Objections to the voters’ list will be invited from 21 to 27 January, after which the final voters’ list will be published on 3 February 2026. Filing of nominations is scheduled for 10 and 11 February, scrutiny of nomination papers on 13 February, and publication of the list of candidates on 14 February. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 17 February, and the final list of candidates will be released on 18 February 2026.
As per the directions of the , the total strength of the Jharkhand State Bar Council is 25 members, of which 7 seats are reserved for women. Out of these, 5 seats will be filled through elections and 2 through co-option. Accordingly, elections will be conducted for 23 seats this time. There is also a provision ensuring that a minimum number of elected members must be advocates enrolled on the State Roll for at least 10 years.
The entire election process will be conducted at the JSBC office located at Doranda North Office Campus, Ranchi, while polling will take place at designated polling stations across the state. The date and venue for counting of votes will be decided by the Chief Returning Officer.
The announcement has generated considerable enthusiasm among advocates across Jharkhand, as the Bar Council election plays a crucial role in shaping professional representation and guiding policies of the legal fraternity.
