Demand to Double Health Budget, Focus on Mustard Oil and Nutritious Food in PDS

On the final day of the pre-budget meeting, Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari said the upcoming budget will be people-friendly, strong and forward-looking. He demanded that the Health Department’s budget be increased from ₹5,500 crore to ₹11,000 crore. He also stressed raising the Food and Supplies Department’s budget from ₹2,800 crore to ₹3,000 crore and strengthening the Public Distribution System. Dr Ansari further urged the provision of mustard oil and protein-rich food items through the PDS.
