Legal Awareness Program Held in Bundu Under 100-Day Campaign Against Child Marriage
Addressing the gathering, Deputy LADC Kavita Kumari Khati described child marriage as a serious threat to the future of children. She explained that the marriage of a girl below 18 years of age and a boy below 21 years of age is legally considered child marriage. Such practices adversely affect education, lead to an uncertain future, and increase the risk of domestic violence and abuse. Early pregnancy and childbirth pose serious health risks to both mother and child, and also result in economic dependence.
She emphasized preventive measures such as increasing social awareness, promoting girls’ education, strict enforcement of laws, and effective use of child protection services. Information about Child Helpline 1098 and the toll-free number 15100 was also shared.
During the program, law students provided information on social issues including witchcraft practices, child labour, crimes against children, and domestic violence.
PLV Dr. Anil Kumar Verma informed the participants about various welfare schemes run by the government and stated that PLVs are appointed in every block, panchayat, and hospital to provide free legal assistance whenever required.
DALSA PLV Sonamoni Devi shared information on widow pension, old-age pension, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Rukmani Devi and Praduman Pramanik explained the process of Lok Adalat and mediation. Soheb Ansari and Bimla Kumari provided details about victim compensation schemes, while Sandhya Kumari and Dilkhush Mahato informed the participants about the role and functions of the District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi.
