Wasseypur gangster Faheem Khan to walk free after 16 years, family celebrates court order

Jharkhand/Dhanbad (M Bharat 24 News Live):  Notorious Wasseypur gangster Faheem Khan is set to walk free after spending over 16 years in jail. The Jharkhand High Court on Friday ordered his release, sparking celebrations among his family and supporters in Dhanbad.

Friday turned out to be a lucky day for Faheem Khan as the court’s order paved the way for his return to normal life. Following the decision, Faheem’s family expressed immense joy. On Saturday, his son Iqbal Khan distributed sweets and thanked the judiciary for delivering justice.

Iqbal Khan said the family had full faith in the judicial system and was confident that justice would eventually prevail. He also expressed gratitude to the Dhanbad Police for maintaining law and order in the district. Urging young people to stay away from crime, Iqbal said, “Those who choose the path of crime always face terrible consequences. It’s better to return to the mainstream of society.”

Faheem Khan’s lawyer, Shahbaz Salam, said the gangster had filed a petition on November 29, 2024, seeking release due to his old age and deteriorating health. The court, after hearing the plea, directed the state government to review the case through a Review Board, which later recommended his release. Salam added that Faheem is now over 75 years old and has spent more than two decades in prison. Considering his age and health, the court granted the order for his release.

It is worth noting that Faheem Khan was convicted in the 1989 murder of Sagir, a case that became one of the most infamous chapters in Dhanbad’s criminal history. He has been serving his sentence since 2009.

With the High Court’s decision, Faheem’s family and well-wishers in Wasseypur are rejoicing, marking the end of a long and turbulent chapter in their lives.
