Ranchi, October 27, 2026: The Jharkhand government is preparing to advance the Medico City and Medical Tourism Project to strengthen modern healthcare facilities across the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the initiative aims to develop advanced hospitals and super-speciality medical services. According to Health Department documents, an administrative approval proposal worth ₹284 crore, 17 lakh, 24 thousand and 900 has been prepared for Cabinet approval to develop the project's basic infrastructure. Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari said he had been working on the project for the past two years, with the aim of ensuring that poor, tribal and rural families can access quality treatment within Jharkhand.

Dr. Irfan Ansari said many patients from Jharkhand travel to Vellore, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai for serious illnesses, cancer treatment, cardiac care and complex surgeries. Such journeys increase the financial burden on families due to travel and accommodation expenses in addition to medical costs. The proposed Medico City could offer opportunities to develop robotic surgery, super-speciality services, digital health records, telemedicine, advanced diagnostic centres and critical care facilities. However, the final range of services will depend on the approved project plan. The Health Minister remarked that if such an initiative had started 20 years ago, Jharkhand could have progressed much further in healthcare.

The Health Minister expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department Ajay Kumar Singh and departmental officials for their support. He said that developing the Medico City alongside strengthening existing institutions such as RIMS could be an important step towards making Jharkhand more self-reliant in healthcare. The project could also create opportunities for specialist medical services, healthcare workforce training, investment and employment. However, its implementation and expected benefits will depend on Cabinet approval, detailed planning and effective execution.
