New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has helped prevent suspected cyber fraud losses of over ₹5,043 crore through its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), launched on May 22, 2025.
FRI provides real-time risk information on mobile numbers linked to financial fraud, enabling banks and payment platforms to flag or stop suspicious transactions before money is lost.
The system uses intelligence from citizens’ reports, telecom operators, banks and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. DoT is also expanding FRI protection to the securities, insurance and pension sectors.
Citizens have been advised to report suspicious calls and messages through Sanchar Saathi’s Chakshu and call 1930 immediately in case of financial cyber fraud.
