Grand Celebration of Sardar@150 Held in Lohardaga
Run for Unity Organised; Students, Youth and NCC/NSS Volunteers Spread the Message of National Unity

Under the instructions of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, New Delhi, a grand programme under Sardar@150 was organised in Lohardaga district on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. As part of the celebration, a Run for Unity was conducted, which began from Lalit Narayan Stadium.
Flag-off by MLA and Deputy Commissioner
The run was flagged off by Panki MLA Dr. Shashibhushan Mehta and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tarachand. On this occasion, the MLA said that Sardar Patel was a visionary leader who united the nation and strengthened its integrity. He added that the nation always comes first, and many great personalities have played significant roles in India’s freedom struggle and nation-building. Among them, the contribution of Sardar Patel remains extraordinary.
Deputy Commissioner Highlights Patel’s Historic Role
The Deputy Commissioner stated that Sardar Patel played a key role in integrating more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union—an extremely challenging task. He said that despite India’s linguistic and cultural diversity, the nation stands united. The country is progressing economically, and every citizen contributes to this growth. People were encouraged to participate actively in the unity march.
Route of the Unity March
The march started from Lalit Narayan Stadium and proceeded through Barwatoli Chowk, East Gola Road, Gudri Bazaar, Mahavir Chowk, Bada Talab, and Powerganj Chowk, then via New Road, and finally returned to the stadium. Students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, youth, and police personnel participated with great enthusiasm, holding the national flag and spreading the message of unity. Slogans like “One India – Best India,” “Unity is Strength,” and “Sardar Patel Amar Rahe” echoed throughout the march.
Dignitaries Present
The programme saw the presence of Deputy Development Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat, Additional Collector Jitendra Munda, District Sports Officer Upvan Bara, along with several other dignitaries. The guests administered a pledge to all participants to work towards building a united, developed, and self-reliant India.
