Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Champai Soren has been put under house arrest at his Lalpur residence in Ranchi. This action has been taken by the City Deputy Superintendent of Police (City DSP).
Actually, Champai Soren was about to plough the land in Nagdi on Sunday regarding the land dispute of the proposed Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences-2 (RIMS-2). Where thousands of people are going to protest. But before he could reach the protest site, he has been stopped from going out of his residence.
Champai Soren has shared this information on his social media handle X. He wrote, "The Jharkhand government has put me under house arrest since this morning to stop me from raising the voice of the tribal/indigenous farmers of Nagdi."
The BJP leaders of Jharkhand were to protest by ploughing the land of the proposed RIMS-2 in Nagdi today under the 'Hal Joto, Ropa Ropo' program. Therefore, many other big BJP leaders are also being prevented from going near the RIMS-2 land.
The administration seems to be fully prepared. Police personnel have been deployed in Nagdi and its surrounding areas, so that if anyone tries to spoil the atmosphere, immediate action can be taken against him. This has also been confirmed by City DSP KV Raman.
It is worth mentioning that there is anger among the villagers due to the prevention of the peasants from farming on the land marked for RIMS-2 in Nagdi and surrounding villages and fencing with barbed wires. On the call of 'Nagdi Jamin Bachao Sangharsh Samiti', the villagers have been preparing for the movement for many days. The committee has invited farmers from nearby villages to join the protest.
Locals say that the land was acquired long ago. But since no construction work was done here, the natural claim on this land is of the peasants.
