Ranchi, October 26, 2026: In view of the possibility of continuous rainfall under the influence of Cyclone ‘Arnab’ from October 28 to 30, the Ranchi district administration has directed all concerned departments to remain alert and ensure necessary preparations. District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has instructed officials to continuously monitor the situation and take appropriate precautionary measures. The administration has urged residents to remain vigilant, follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary risks during the anticipated period of adverse weather.
According to the information provided by the district administration, continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and on roads across Ranchi. Kutcha houses, huts and other weak structures may suffer partial or major damage. Rivers and major drains may experience rising water levels, potentially creating flood-like conditions in low-lying areas. Water accumulation in agricultural fields may also damage standing crops. In view of these possibilities, the administration has instructed officials from disaster management, revenue, municipal administration, police, health, electricity, water resources and other concerned departments to maintain continuous vigilance from October 28 to 30.
Municipal authorities have been directed to ensure the proper cleaning of roads, drains and drainage systems to minimise waterlogging. Special monitoring will be required in vulnerable localities, low-lying areas and places near rivers and major drains. Officials have also been instructed to identify areas where kutcha houses, huts and weak structures could be affected and make arrangements to shift residents to safer locations whenever necessary. The agriculture department has been asked to provide suitable advice to farmers to help protect standing crops from damage caused by waterlogging.
The district administration has appealed to residents living in low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas to exercise extra caution and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall. People living in vulnerable houses have been advised to follow the instructions of local authorities. Residents should stay away from rivers, drains and flooded roads, as water levels may rise rapidly. In case of an emergency, citizens should immediately contact the local administration, police or disaster control room.
The administration has also issued safety instructions regarding lightning and strong winds. During thunderstorms, people should immediately take shelter inside a permanent building or another safe location and avoid open spaces. Residents have been advised to stay away from old trees, electric poles and hoardings, which may fall during strong winds. Vehicles should not be parked beneath trees or unstable structures. During severe storms, electrical appliances should be unplugged where it is safe to do so, and the main power switch should be turned off if there is a risk of electrical faults or short circuits.
The Ranchi district administration has stated that the situation will be monitored continuously and further instructions will be issued as required. Citizens have been urged to follow official weather forecasts and administrative advisories and cooperate with the authorities to minimise risks. For public grievances, residents can contact the Ranchi district administration’s official WhatsApp service, “Abua Saathi,” at 9430328080.
