‘One Nation, One Port Process’ Improves Port Efficiency, Reduces Ship Turnaround Time
New Delhi, August 8: The ‘One Nation, One Port Process’ (ONOP), implemented by the government to improve the operational efficiency of the country's major ports, has helped standardize and simplify port processes. This has also resulted in a reduction in ship turnaround time.
The average turnaround time at major ports is expected to decrease from 52.87 hours in 2021-22 to 48.84 hours in 2025-26. The government has taken several steps to increase port efficiency, including the construction of new berths and terminals, and the mechanization, modernization, and optimization of existing berths, terminals, and yards.
In addition, supporting infrastructure, such as central parking plazas, is also being developed. Through the 'One Nation, One Port Process', procedures at all ports have been made uniform and simple, thereby increasing operational efficiency and helping in reducing the dwell time of ships.
According to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025 released by the World Bank, Jawaharlal Nehru Port is ranked 22nd. This is close to Singapore's 21st and Shanghai's 23rd position and is better than Rotterdam's 333rd position.
This information was given by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
