Bus Stopped in 'No-Entry' Zone Targeted; Police Tighten Net Around Extortionists
Swift Action by Ranchi Police Following Firing at Bus Driver; 4 Accused Arrested
Ranchi: The Ranchi Police have arrested four criminals accused of demanding extortion money from a bus driver and opening fire at him. The incident occurred on the night of May 12, 2026, when the "Jeevan Jyoti" bus—traveling from Ranchi to Nalanda—was halted near Argora Chowk due to a 'No-Entry' restriction.
During this time, three criminals approached the bus. Two of the criminals boarded the vehicle, placed a weapon against the driver's temple, and began demanding extortion money. When the driver resisted, the criminals opened fire. Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt.
Police patrol teams and traffic police personnel present at the scene immediately sprang into action. The police apprehended one of the accused, seizing an illegal weapon from him, while the other two criminals managed to flee. Upon receiving this information, and acting under the directives of senior officials, a special team was constituted to conduct continuous raids. Subsequently, the two absconding criminals—along with a fourth accused who had supplied the weapons—were also arrested.

According to the police, a case of murder is already registered against one of the arrested accused, Kundan Kumar. An FIR regarding the current incident has been registered at the Argora Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
