7-Year-Old Ishank Creates History; Chief Minister Hemant Soren Honors Him

 Ranchi | May 7, 2026

On Thursday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren honored Ishank Singh—a seven-year-old swimmer from Ranchi—at the Chief Minister's Residential Office for his historic achievement. The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to Ishank, presenting him with a cheque of ₹5 lakh, a traditional stole (Angavastra), and a memento.

Notably, on April 30, 2026, Ishank Singh set a world record by continuously swimming for 9 hours and 50 minutes to cross the challenging 29-kilometer-long Palk Strait, situated between India and Sri Lanka.

The Chief Minister stated that Ishank's success is a moment of pride for the entire state of Jharkhand and that the state government is continuously striving to promote sporting talent. He expressed confidence that Ishank would further bring glory to the state at both national and international levels in the future.

Present on this occasion were Sports Minister Sudivya Kumar, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, and several other officials from the Sports Department.
